This a Paper discussed in Social Media Analysis 10-802 in Spring 2010.

Summary

This is paper is related to Cost Effective Outbreak Detection in Networks and uses Water Sensor Network data.

This competition is host to increase the power of the methods used to detect contaminants in the water system (either by accident or deliberate). Many comparisons can be made between the spread of water contaminants and an information cascade that passes through people/websites/blogs. The paper Cost Effective Outbreak Detection in Networks uses Submodularity to efficiently place sensors in the network to detect contaminants.
