A review of Bunescu_2007_learning_to_extract_relations_from_the_web_using_minimal_supervision by user:rbalasub

The authors explore an alternative to Multi Instance learning for the task of Relation learning. They new kernels that are suited for the task's characteristics, specifically large but relatively few instances(bags) during training. The construction of the relation extraction kernel is intriguing. Hand constructing a kernel for a specific task is an interesting approach. It'll be fun to check how it compares with constructing features. The other aspect that is noteworthy in the model is using different penalties for positive and negative instances to account for the heavy imbalance in the training set.
