Project Ideas

possible ideas:

• Using multiple resources in community detection in scholar networks like publication data, co-authorship, ...

• Finding mentorship relationships between people and recommending mentors to some people

Dataset

• The CiteULike dataset for extracting relationships and interesting publications for user.

• iConference dataset for authors who have published in the iConference.

• Microsoft Academic Research data

  • These datasets are not available now and have to be crawled.

Motivation

• Finding communities in social networks helps more in understanding the nature of the network, how it emerged, and what are the important factors of emerging a community in that network.

• It is interesting to find important hubs of each community and see their effect on other community members. Also, finding out the features which improve them as a significant community member is interesting.

Possible Techniques

• Graph Clustering Methods

• Using Modularity Measure and Optimizing it

• Spectral Clustering

Evaluation

Manual evaluation + Cross Validation on Clustering measures
