This is a term discussed in Social Media Analysis 10-802 in Spring 2010.

Social bookmarking is a method for Internet users to save links to web pages that they want to remember and/or share. These bookmarks are usually public, however user may want to save it privately. User may add a description to these bookmarks to help other people to understand the content without downloading it. Social bookmarking sites like del.icio.us and StumbleUpon have been growing rapidly. Both now have millions of users.
