- A paper which gives an overview of tagging systems in general is the paper Position Paper, Tagging, Taxonomy, Flickr, Article,ToRead. In Collaborative Web Tagging Workshop at WWW2006, May 2006. They provide a taxonomy of tagging systems and furthermore discusses why users tag.
- Another interesting paper is Why we tag: Motivations for annotation in mobile and online media, CHI 2007 which performs an analysis of why people tag.
